One thing that was not really possible in WebSite-Watcher 4 was to check pages with IFRAMES. While it worked if you entered the URL of an IFRAME directly, it was impossible to monitor pages with dynamic IFRAME addresses. This is now possible with WebSite-Watcher 5.
IFRAMES are “embedded pages” and often used to display advertisements within web pages. Sometimes they are also used to list for instance the results of search queries.
IFRAME support isn’t enabled by default in WebSite-Watcher 5 and can be turned on per bookmark.
How does it work concretely?
If a page contains IFRAMES, an information bar is displayed as soon as you open the bookmark in the internal browser.
A click onto that info bar displays a menu from which you can open all IFRAMES in new browser tabs and verify if they contain important content. A second menu entry opens the IFRAME configuration in the bookmark properties where you have the following choices:
- Check IFRAMES:
Use this option if an IFRAME contains important information that should be checked for updates. - Suppress IFRAME warning:
Use this option if IFRAMES are used to display advertisements. This setting will ignore all IFRAMES and no longer display the info bar when you open the bookmark. - Leave everything unchecked:
This will not check IFRAMES, but you will see the browser info bar each time you open the bookmark.
