AM-Notebook and web content + LWA Integration

Monday, January 26th, 2009

We have now uploaded a first beta of AM-Notebook 5.1, you can download it from the Beta-Section.

One thing that has been improved in AM-Notebook 5.1 is pasting content from your web browser. While previous versions simply pasted text, the new version also handles hyperlinks correctly and downloads/inserts embedded images. This makes it much more convenient if you want to paste small snippets from your browser into a note.

Another nice new feature is the integration of Local Website Archive. With that enhancement you can open archived pages within AM-Notebook.

Integration of Local Website Archive

AM-Notebook introduces a new “section” in the tool panel from where you can open archived pages in new tabs.

After a few months of silence, we’re preparing a first beta of the next version of AM-Notebook, v5.1. This version will bring some nice new features and improvements. If everything goes well, we can release it in the last week of January 2009.

Quickly open notes

Something that often annoyed me was the process of finding and opening a specific note, especially when you have hundreds of notes stored. Version 5.1 has now a search field in the “Notes by date” dialog, that lets you quickly search and open notes with just a few keystrokes.

Quickly open notes

1. Use Ctrl+F5 to open that dialog
2. Enter one or more search words
3. Use the arrow keys to select a note (more notes can be selected by holding the shift key pressed)
4. Press the Enter key to open the note

In the meantime I mainly use that way to open my notes, it just works fantastic.

Locking tabs

Tab-locking was a very often requested feature that is now finally implemented in version 5.1. Having it available is a really nice thing, I never thought that I use it that much. Locked tabs will stay open permanently, it’s not possible to close them or open another note in the same tab. If a locked tab is selected, then opening a new note will automatically open it in a new tab.

The Plugin System of WebSite-Watcher 5

Friday, January 9th, 2009

A major new feature that will be introduced step-by-step in future WebSite-Watcher 5.x versions is the integrated Plugin System. This system provides a powerful way in which the functionality of bookmark checks can be changed or enhanced by writing custom scripts.

This allows you, for instance, to extract a specific price from a web page and only alert an update if that price has been changed and is lower than USD 100.

WOW, that sounds promising! WebSite-Watcher 5.0 can already execute pre-defined Plugins which are included in the WebSite-Watcher setup package, mainly Plugins to check discussion forums (phpBB, SMF, vBulletin, IP.Board). The whole Plugin development system will be available in WebSite-Watcher 5.1 what allows end users to write their own Plugins.

If you monitor a page, WebSite-Watcher automatically searches for compatible Plugins. If compatible Plugins are found, they are suggested in the browser information bar as soon as you open the bookmark.

Clicking onto the information bar lets you choose a compatible Plugin. It contains and handles everything that is required to monitor that page (discussion forum), no need to setup a filter or run the Filter-Assistant.
